Colton did as he promised, bringing us back to the room. On our way by the playpen, I motioned to set my soft blanket into it so I’d have my comfort object next time. Tapping my fingers on the pacifier base alerted him of a need without speaking.

“Are you finished with the pacifier for tonight, angel?”

Nodding enthusiastically, I savored one last suckle before Colton removed the object from my mouth.

“I thought you wanted to go to bed.”

“Patience,” Colton growled before releasing his grip, and I nearly came from the deeper meaning. He’d delay my gratification if I pushed hard enough, and the thought thrilled me to my core.
